Brian Hook has served as Senior Policy Advisor to the Secretary of State and Director of the Secretary’s Policy Planning Staff since February 2017.
Previously, Mr. Hook was Founding Partner of Latitude, LLC, an international strategic consulting, from January 2011 to February 2017. He also held a number of senior positions in the Bush Administration, including Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations from 2008 to 2009, Senior Advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations from 2006 to 2008, Special Assistant to the President for Policy in the White House Chief of Staff’s office from 2004 to 2006, and Counsel, Office of Legal Policy, at the U.S. Department of Justice from 2003 to 2004.
Mr. Hook practiced corporate law as an Associate at Hogan & Hartson from 1999-2003. Before practicing law, he served as an advisor to Iowa Governor Terry Branstad and to U.S. Congressman James Leach.
Mr. Hook received his Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of Law. He also earned a Master of Arts in Philosophy from Boston College and a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from the University of Saint Thomas.
