Biographical Information

Ms. Megan Schildgen is a career diplomat with the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service, currently serving as the Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Doha, Qatar. In this role, she leads a 5-person team in assisting U.S. businesses with exporting to Qatar and attracting Qatari investment into the United States. Previous diplomatic postings include Santiago, Chile (2014-19), Chicago, Illinois (2012-14), and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (2009-12). Prior to joining Commerce, Megan worked for USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service in Washington, D.C. (2002-09), in roles related to trade capacity building program management and trade policy/barrier reduction. Megan holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Business Administration (Marketing) and Spanish, with a certificate in International Business. She also earned a master’s degree in International Development Studies from the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, where her capstone project focused on market access issues in Nicaragua. Megan is a fluent Spanish speaker. She grew up on her family's four-generation beef cattle farm in rural Wisconsin. She is married and has two sons.
