Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy was appointed as Minister of Commerce and Industry in February of 2012 and subsequently, as Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Planning. Prior to his latest appointments, he was Minister of Sports Affairs, commencing October 2004. From May 1996 until October 2004, he served as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
His Excellency is currently Chairman of the Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN) as well as Chairman of the General Authority for SME Development and Al Raffed Fund and a member of the Financial Affairs council and Energy Resources and member of the Board of the State General Reserve Fund (SGRF).
He served previously as Chairman of Information Technology Authority (ITA), Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) and Chairman of the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC). Additionally he was a member of the Tender Board, the Public Authority for Social Insurance, and a founding member of the National Information Technology Committee.
His Excellency received his PhD in Economics from the University of Hull (UK) and obtained a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Bristol (UK) in 2000. His Excellency Al Sunaidi was awarded a bachelors degree of science in industrial engineering from the University of Miami (Florida) in 1988.
