Biographical Information

Tarek Amer has served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt since November 2015. Previously, between 2008 and 2013, he was Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the National Bank of Egypt (UK) Limited.

Mr. Amer also served as First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt from 2003 to 2008, where he played a role in enacting reform programs in monetary policy and Egypt’s banking sector. Prior to this position, Mr. Amer was Deputy Chairman of the Arab International Bank and Deputy Chairman of the Egyptian Banking Institute. His career in banking spans over 27 years and includes executive positions with Citibank and Bank of America for Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Gulf.

Mr. Amer received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Management from the American University in Cairo in 1980.
