Biographical Information

Ravi Murugan currently serves as Defense Attaché at the Embassy of India. 

Prior to this assignment, General Murugan served as Military Attaché. Prior to his service in the United States, he commanded the Independent Armoured Brigade and served as Director, Perspective Planning Concepts and Force Application and at Perspective Planning Strategic Division.  Additionally, he served as the Colonel General Staff of Operations of the Armored Division.  He also served as a Colonel Instructor at the School of Armored Warfare, and commanded a Mechanized Guards Infantry Battalion.  General Murugan served as Major Instructor at the Intelligence School, Brigade Major at the Line of Control, and Operations Officer/Duty Officer at the United Nations Mission in Angola.  He was commissioned in the Indian Army in June 1987, and was awarded the Sword of Honour and the President’s Gold Medal as a Cadet.

He has attended the following military schools: Higher Air Command Course at the College of Air Warfare, Senior Command Course at the Army War College, and Staff College (Wellington).

General Murugan holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from Osmania University, a Master of Science from Madras University, and Bachelor’s degree from Jawahar Lal Nehru University.
