ALGERIA: Conference Call with The Honorable John Desrocher, Ambassador of the United States to Algeria
- Washington, DC
- 10:00 am - 11:00 am
When Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika decided to seek a fifth consecutive term in elections scheduled for April 2019, despite his declining health, political protests flared throughout the country. President Bouteflika has since announced that he will not seek reelection and delayed the April elections, but questions concerning Algeria's future system of government are more pertinent than ever. Algeria is an important partner for the U.S. on counterterrorism, energy, and regional migration issues, so political uncertainty, coupled with stagnation in the Algerian economy, has implications for U.S. policymakers and businesses alike. On this call, Ambassador Desrocher will shed light on the political landscape in Algeria and the ramifications for U.S. businesses.
