On January 2, 2019, Arthur B. Culvahouse Jr. was confirmed as the new Ambassador of the United States to Australia thus filling a position that has been vacant for two years.
Ambassador-Designate Culvahouse previously practiced law with O'Melveny & Myers, an international law firm where he was the Chair from 1989 until 2018. He also served as White House counsel to Ronald Reagan and vetted Republican vice-presidential running mates including Mike Pence in 2016. From 1973 to 1976, C Ambassador-Designate Culvahouse was Chief Legislative Assistant/Counsel to Senator Howard H. Baker Jr.
Ambassador Culvahouse received his Juris Doctorate from New York University 1973. He earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee in 1970.
