Mr. Kevin K. McAleenan currently serves as the Acting Commissioner of the United States Customs and Border Protection. In January 2017, President Trump nominated Mr. McAleenan to serve as Commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and he currently awaits Senate confirmation. Previously, he held the positions of Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner of the Office of Field Operations in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, roles including responsibilities as the agency’s Chief Operating Offer and senior career official. Mr. McAleenan also worked as the Area Port Director of the Los Angeles International Airport. Prior to his government service, Mr. McAleenan practiced law in California.
Mr. McAleenan received a 2015 Presidential Rank award. Additionally, he earned the Service to America Medal and the Call to Service Award for efforts to develop and implement a comprehensive antiterrorism strategy after September 11, 2001.
Mr. McAleenan holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College.
