Patrick Santillo has been assigned to be the Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Embassy New Delhi, India beginning in September 2016. He has served most recently as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for China. Before this post, he was the Regional Senior Commercial Officer (SCO) responsible for the ASEAN region at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore.
Prior to his assignment as Regional SCO for ASEAN, Mr. Santillo served as the Regional Director for East Asia and the Pacific for the U.S. Department of Commerce (DoC). In this position, he oversaw operations in thirteen countries in the region, including more than seventy Foreign Commercial Service Officers and nearly three hundred locally hired employees. Before serving as the Regional Director, Mr. Santillo was the Deputy SCO at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. In this role, he had day-to-day managerial responsibility for one of the largest Commercial Service operations in the world.
In addition, Mr. Santillo served as the Principal Commercial Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Toronto, Canada from 1996 to 2000. Prior to that position, he was the SCO at the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece where he had regional responsibility for Cyprus, Macedonia, and Albania. He also served as the Deputy Regional Director for Europe in the Office of International Operations of the Commercial Service. His responsibilities included management support for operations in more than fifteen countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Mr. Santillo’s experience also includes tours of duty as the Commercial Service’s Assignments Officer, the Principal Commercial Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Osaka, and as a Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. Mr. Santillo is a member of the Senior Foreign Service and has worked for the DoC for more than twenty-five years.
Mr. Santillo earned his master’s degree in Economics from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his bachelor’s degree from the American University in Washington, D.C.
